Process

A teak Adirondack chair, handmade from Sunnyrock Woodworks.

Design and Craft

  • We work primarily with responsibly sourced hardwoods - white oak, walnut, cherry, maple, beech, ash, and sapele. We source materials from reputable suppliers who share our commitment to responsible practices and high-quality products. We aim to use reclaimed wood whenever possible.

  • All pieces are built using a balance of traditional joinery and modern techniques that stand up for decades. While most shaping is done with modern woodworking machines, every piece is finished by hand - refining edges, fitting components, and ensuring every surface feels intentional.

  • A thoughtful finish protects the wood while preserving its natural texture. We typically use eco-friendly, low-VOC hardwax oils that strengthen the grain without masking its character, allowing it to age gracefully. Tinting or staining is used upon request or when needed to match existing elements. Each piece includes a simple care guide to ensure it lasts for generations.

  • We will happily restore or refinish any piece built by Sunnyrock. While we don’t recreate others’ designs outright, we welcome using reference pieces as inspiration to inform new, original work.
